The mens pea coat is a versatile piece of outerwear. By design, the coat is made to be tailored in appearance so it can be worn with casual and formal attire. Most coats’ styles in this particular design are made from wool. This makes the item good for wearing on cold days. It can be worn during the chilly days of autumn right through until spring. If needed, a sweatshirt can be worn underneath this type of coat during the colder winter months. The design for the collar and lapel area tends to be that of the wide or double breasted style.

There are a few variations on the traditional designs for mens pea coats such as the style by BDG. This particular coat has a shawl like collar that is a ribbed knit and belted cuff at the wrists. It comes in an olive green rather than the classic navy blue. You may also find styles cut to hang longer in length than the traditional style. The classic coat generally comes to just below the hip region. There are a few styles made longer to hang just above the knee so they are similar to a mid-length trench style coat.

These various styles will also be found in other colors basic to men’s outwear such as black. The double breasted style of coat has one row of buttons that runs down the side as decoration while the second row is used to keep the coat closed. When closed, the piece has a tailored look with two matching rows of buttons running down the front. The design from Calvin Klein uses a different approach by combining the wide front with a small Nehru jacket type of collar. Another variation may include the fabric consisting of a wool blend instead of 100 percent wool.

Because this style of coat is so versatile, it makes a great gift for any man. You will find it available in sizes from small to extra large. You might also find the mens peacoats available at big and tall stores that carry outerwear for men. This style of coat can be accessorized with a scarf and hat to make it practical for wearing in colder weather. The tailored look also makes it a great item for the professional person. The wool fabric is much warmer than the traditional nylon trench coat and can be easily dry-cleaned.
